Playa del Carmen is a small city on the Caribbean coast in the heart of the Riviera Maya. It is unique in that it has retained its fishing village charm, but offers the amenities of a world-class beach resort. The area’s major attractions are the white sandy beaches, the crystal clear blue water, the laid back Caribbean attitude, and the warm tropical weather. The climate in the Riviera Maya is semi-tropical, with an average yearly temperature of 80° degrees Fahrenheit (26 ° Celsius). In the summer months, it can rise to 100° degrees Fahrenheit (37.7° Celsius). At the heart of town is a cobblestone walkway called Quinta Avenida, or 5th Avenue. This quaint area is located just one block inland from the beach, and is lined with boutique hotels, shops, bars and restaurants. ¡Que’ bueno!
